My Talk With Kane

The Scene: I walk into the Library Bar in Minneapolis on Sunday April 18 at 3:30 in the afternoon. I sit down at a stool and make my order. While waiting I watch the Phoenix Coyotes and the Detroit red wings face off. The bar is pretty empty, probably because it’s the middle of the day. The first period ends and the scores 1 up. I am in disbelief, thinking that Detroit would be ahead, just like every other year. I look around and see Patrick Kane about four stools down wearing a hat, trying to stay low. I slide down to sit next to him, not trying to draw attention to who he is.

Me: Hey, you’re…
Kane: Yea.
Me: What are you doing here?
Kane: I’m just sitting here having a beer. What about you, you look a bit young to be in a bar?
Me: Psh I go where I want when I want.
Kane: Well that’s a pretty bold thing to say.
Me: Yea, but what are you doing in Minnesota, don’t you have a home game tonight?
Kane: Yea, I have a friend up here who was getting married.
Me: Okay, I have a question, how do you think you guys are going to turn out in the playoffs?
Kane: You’re sounding like a journalist! And not to sound too confident but, we’re going to win the cup.
Me: Yea I hope you do, I’m so sick of the penguins or the redwings winning it!
Kane: yea me too.
Me: I love the playoffs way more than the regular season; everyone plays at such a higher intensity of play.
Kane: Yea I can agree there, even I pickup my play. It’s probably because everyone dreams as a kid of winning the cup, and when you have it in your reach; you’re going to pick it up a bit.
Me: Yea well, good luck and I’ll let you finish that beer!
Kane: Ok…what’s your name?
Me: Shawn.
Kane: Ok Shawn, how would you like to have you and your whole family to come to the game tonight?
Me: Really!? That’s awesome!
Kane: Yea you’ll have a suite and I can have you all flown down and everything! Here are the tickets, and the plane tickets should be waiting for you at the airport.
Me: Even better, but I’m going to need to be back by Monday afternoon?
Kane: I can swing that.
Me: Sweet, I’ve got to let the family know! So I’m going to go! Se you when you play!
Kane: See you later Shawn…Oh! And your flight leaves at five o’ clock; we’ll have a driver waiting for you.
Me: This just gets better and better! Thanks for everything!
Kane: Yep.

In creative writing on Monday we had to come up with a dialogue, this was mine. This never really happened. But if it did that would’ve been amazing!
